We recently spoke with Andrew Schenkel, the Founder, and CEO of Double Play Marketing and Sales. Double Play serves various clients as an outsourced chief marketing officer, and sales support all rolled into one.
Andrew founded Double Play amidst the pandemic when he began doing consulting, and it snowballed. Now, he employs a full-time account manager and three WBN assistants who work as marketing coordinators, along with various marketing freelancers and an outsourced chief operations officer to aid with day-to-day operations.
With remote employees in multiple countries, streamlining processes is crucial to Double Play’s success. Andrew relies heavily on the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) to help his business run smoothly. EOS is meant to help businesses clarify their vision and gain traction—and it helps keep everyone in an organization on the same page.
“The best way to put it is that we have a process for everything,” said Andrew. “And the beauty of [EOS] is that you can create a process and a procedure and a scorecard for everything, so whoever comes into these seats in our company knows exactly what they need to do on a day-to-day basis in order to execute and be successful,” he said.
Thanks to EOS, employees thoroughly understand company processes and their roles in as little as thirty days. “Everything is written out in some sort of playbook or video. And we’re able to replicate that time and time again,” said Andrew.
He and his team meet weekly to discuss their accounts, goals, metrics, and to-do’s for the next week. The structure and processes they have in place allow them to focus on serving their clients. “Having the team structure the way we have it lets the account managers focus on the strategy component and deliver the best results for our clients while our marketing coordinators are able to do a lot of the behind-the-scenes,” he said.
Andrew’s team works mainly with small- to mid-size businesses. Most don’t have the capacity to dedicate time or effort to a marketing strategy.
“They have beautiful work…but it’s spotty. What we bring to the table is the cadence,” said Andrew. “We create that campaign and nurture prospects and current clients…Doing marketing piecemeal is not the best practice.”
Though Andrew started his business alone, he’s thankful for the team he has now—a team primarily composed of WBN remote talent. Regarding working with his WBN talent, Andrew has nothing but positive things to say.
“It’s been fantastic; that’s the short of it,” he said. “There’s a level of trust now that we have as a team. Yes, they may be in another country, but they’re a true component of our organization, and that’s what’s made it so successful…They’ve become really a backbone within our business.”
Andrew doesn’t hesitate to integrate each and every employee fully into the team. And by building that connection, he can trust that they’ll do whatever tasks they’re given “a thousand times over.”
Having WBN talent has also allowed Andrew to focus more on strategy. “I don’t have to worry that XYZ LinkedIn post is going up on a certain day. I don’t have to worry that if a lead comes in through a lead gen process then it’s going to end up in my inbox,” he said. Instead, he can work on his business rather than in it.
