If you’re like me and my partner, you’re always looking for better ways to run your business. For starters, that means everyone is aligned on goals and projects, clients are thrilled, and we are experiencing profitable growth.
At WorkBetterNow (WBN), we rely on the Entrepreneurial Operating System® (EOS) to communicate our strategy, streamline our operations, and keep our team aligned and focused. It has transformed our business by clarifying our vision, gaining traction, and ensuring everyone in our organization is on the same page, and it’s doing the same for thousands of other small and midsize businesses. But before I jump into the details of our success story with EOS, I’ll first briefly explain how it works.
What is EOS?
Entrepreneurial Operating System® is a comprehensive framework designed to help businesses achieve clarity, alignment, and traction toward their vision. Developed by Gino Wickman, EOS provides a set of simple yet powerful tools and disciplines that enable organizations to overcome common organizational challenges and drive sustainable growth.
At its core, EOS consists of six key components: Vision, People, Data, Issues, Process, and Traction. If you’d like to take a deeper dive, you can learn more about the six components here.
Overall, EOS is designed to be a practical and scalable system that works with the unique needs of any organization.
Implementing EOS at WorkBetterNow
As WBN’s growth picked up in 2021 and 2022, we realized that we needed a framework to run the business. We adopted the Entrepreneurial Operating System in late 2022. Since then, EOS has become an integral part of our organizational structure, guiding our decision-making and helping us achieve our business objectives. We hired an EOS Implementer, as many companies do, although a lot of companies do self-implement. Below are just a few ways EOS has helped us grow rapidly while staying sane.
Weekly Leadership and Departmental Level 10 Meetings™
One of the cornerstones of our EOS implementation is the practice of holding weekly leadership and departmental Level 10 Meetings™. These meetings give our leadership team and department heads a chance to dig into the KPIs, talk about what’s working and what’s not, and make sure everyone is accountable for their responsibilities. We use real data to keep us moving forward and hitting our targets—and it seriously works.
Setting Quarterly Rocks and Goals
In line with EOS principles, we set quarterly “rocks”—significant projects or initiatives that are critical to achieving our long-term objectives. These rocks are carefully aligned with our quarterly, annual, and long-term goals, making sure everyone’s clear on how they fit into the equation.
RPRS and Delegate and Elevate
EOS’ “people” processes include Right People Right Seats (RPRS), which focuses on having the right talent in the right roles within an organization. This approach has really boosted WBN’s team performance and fueled our business growth by ensuring that each individual in the company seats not only wants it, gets it, and has the capacity to do it, but it also aids in the timely identification and removal of any “poor fits” within our team. Additionally, we implement the Delegate and Elevate principle, which means our leaders hand off tasks to our capable team members, giving themselves the freedom to tackle the bigger-picture responsibilities.
The Impact of EOS on WorkBetterNow
Since integrating EOS into our operations, we have seen so many transformative results. EOS has provided our teams with a clear roadmap for success, fostering accountability and rapid growth within our organization. EOS keeps us sharp, helping us tackle tough stuff head-on and grab opportunities by the horns.
A surprising way that EOS has helped us is the halo effect that we benefit from, once companies find out that WBN runs on EOS. We currently have many EOS Implementers as clients, as well as other companies that run on EOS.
For example, Andrew Schenkel, CEO of Double Play Marketing and Sales, whose company also runs on EOS says:
“My experience with WBN has been fantastic. Despite being in different countries, there’s a level of trust that makes WBN professionals a true component of our organization… When we hand them a process, we’re confident it’ll be executed flawlessly, times a thousand. They’ve become the backbone of our business.”
In fact, we believe in the power of EOS so wholeheartedly that WBN is sponsoring the 2024 EOS Conference, where I’ll be a featured speaker.
